Lot and the men of Sodom

In Genesis 19, after Lot has brought the angels to his home, the men of the city come and demand that Lot bring them out, that they might have sex with them. Instead, Lot offers his two daughters: "See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish." (Gen. 9:8, NKJV) Was Lot offering up his virgin daughters to be raped by these men?
