I just don't think that genuflection as such is very much more significant to Catholics than it is to non-Catholics (as indicated by the answer from @Waggers below). It's "simply kneeling to show respect" and just happens to be the standard way of showing respect for the Blessed Sacrament. That doesn't give us Catholics ownership of a pretty basic and common-sense human gesture. Heck, what about marriage proposals... didn't even think of that earlier! | |

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia it's not a particularly ancient gesture and the liturgy is full of genuflections that aren't directed toward the Blessed Sacrament. newadvent.org/cathen/06423a.htm | |
