You quoted here that it specifically says: "virtuous continence (which Christian law permits in matrimony when both parties consent)" which (when clarified with later encyclicals) validates the use of NFP. Interesting that it also quotes St. Augustine, who would definitely have had a problem with NFP as he did with the Manichaens.

Jul 24, 2014 at 3:54 comment added Dennis To clarify your last few statements, Benedict XVI does not say condoms outside of marriage are a solution, but that they may potentially (and in my opinion, rarely) be a tool to help move toward a legitimate moral solution. Within a marriage they are never okay. A better and expanded analysis of his quote may be found here
