2020 Moderator Election

On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

My name is Ken Graham and I would like to serve this community as a moderator.

Somewhat hesitant at first to do so because there are very big shoes to fill on this site. Nathaniel, Caleb and El'endia Starman have all done a tremendous job at bringing a fair and truly Christian atmosphere to the site, while at same time have remained firm and charitable to all. I hope to simply follow in their steps in a honest, clear and charitable manner, while fostering respect and understanding to all you knock at the door!

I am seventh in total reputation on this site. In editing, I am only superseded by Curiousdanii! While not being on this site as long as some, I have a done a high number of voting as well as raising flags. I am frequently seen on meta.

While there is still much to learn, I believe I have much to contribute to this site and am willing to work with other moderators to foster a genuinely healthy Christian community at Christianity SE.

  • I think you would be a great moderator. You have my vote. – Thom May 22 '20 at 13:18
  • I'm glad to see your name in. You have my support. – fгedsbend May 22 '20 at 18:59
  • Solid. <!-- 15 --> – Caleb May 23 '20 at 12:37
  • Thank you, each and everyone of you! – Ken Graham Jun 2 '20 at 22:17

Hi I'm Dannii, and I'd love to be considered for a moderation position. I have loved this site since joining it six years ago, and visit almost every day. I think this site has mastered the idea of respectful discussion between the various branches of Christianity, and indeed the wider world also.

But loving this site isn't all that a moderator needs. I am one of the most committed users of community moderation on this site: I have one of the highest flag counts, the most edits, third highest voter, and a very high Meta participation. I would like to believe that my interactions with other users on this site has been very fair.

I live in Australia and so as part of the international mod team can help ensure that issues get promptly dealt with no matter the time.

  • The only bummer thing about having you as a mod is you not flagging things for me to delete. Having to deal with your name being on the deleted-by vs being the anonymous impetus for the deletion might be a bit difficult. But then again, it'll be awesome to wake up to an empty flag queue! Also you might want to mention where you're from if people don't know. It's really an advantage to have "follow the sun moderation". – Peter Turner May 20 '20 at 5:31
  • As a former mod on this site, I can attest that curiousdannii is definitely a qualified mod candidate. – El'endia Starman May 20 '20 at 14:58
  • In the last election several years ago, I was harsh on Dannii's nomination. I was wrong! Dannii has proven beyond doubt capability and commitment above and beyond what is necessary. I fully support his nomination. His recent meta activity in reviving the What types of questions can I ask on this site? faq post has been stellar and a real boon to the community, while at the same time demonstrates perfectly his understanding and commitment to the site and it's continued success. – fгedsbend May 20 '20 at 20:14
  • @PeterTurner Caleb was our second longest active mod and also had the highest flag count for a while. Apparently his process was flagging on mobile while on the train to work, then handling all his flags later in the day. – fгedsbend May 20 '20 at 20:18
  • C.SE is about Christianity; another good name would be Christian Studies. 1) A moderator who is knowledgeable not only about his faith but also the theology & history behind his chosen denomination is a plus. 2) Another plus would be a moderator who knows the technicalities behind Bible exegesis (Greek/Hebrew, manuscript, principles of interpretation, ancient background, etc.). 3) Even another plus would be one who has at least rudimentary knowledge of the theology, history, and practices of other denominations. Dannii has all three, and therefore I fully support his nomination. – GratefulDisciple May 20 '20 at 21:26
  • Dannii would be an excellent choice. – David Stratton May 20 '20 at 22:14
  • Thanks everyone :) – curiousdannii May 21 '20 at 5:23
  • I'll be voting for @curiousdannii. You should too. Having been on the receiving end of his flags for many years I say that in full confidence that you'll be in good hands. – Caleb May 21 '20 at 21:44
  • I will be voting for you also. You will make a great moderator. – Ken Graham May 22 '20 at 1:20

Meh, I nominate myself. Qualifications, qualifications. Experience, achievements (or lack thereof), etc. Not sure what I'll do if actually elected.

  • Thanks for stepping up to the plate. – Ken Graham May 19 '20 at 21:48
  • If elected you will click delete, frequently. – Peter Turner May 20 '20 at 5:32
  • I think I can support you ShemSeger. I've seen you consistently participate successfully for years now and have always found you pleasant to interact with. I'll chalk up the "Meh" of your nomination post to humility, rather than apathy. – fгedsbend May 20 '20 at 20:21
  • Really? Meh. This community can do better than this. For that matter you can do better than this. You don't want to be a moderator if this is all the effort you can put in. It's a ton of work, you'll need more than "meh" to carry through. – Caleb May 21 '20 at 21:48
  • Oh @Caleb, I have many a fond memory of being chastised by you when you were a moderator and I was but a noob and biased contributor. – ShemSeger May 21 '20 at 22:05
  • I like your confident spirit but now that we have 3 nominees I need more reason to vote for you :-) How about answering some questions? – GratefulDisciple May 22 '20 at 23:09
  • @ShemSeger Maybe your nomination should be expanded with what you think has changed since then and some basics about how you think the site should be moderated. – Caleb May 23 '20 at 14:17

This election is over.
