I'm an old-timer. My first programs were in CDC 160-A assembler language in 1969, and I've been at it ever since. It was great when languages with native string types arrived: C's null-terminated strings are a still-unfolding disaster. I learn new things every day on SO.
Like Elwood Blues (Dan Ackroyd in the Blues Brothers film) I'm on a mission from God. My mission is to help fellow programmers save power and reduce CO2 emissions by optimizing their apps.
