Jesus's commands to be quiet about his mission on earth

The Messianic Secret in Biblical criticism that refers to Jesus's repeated commands to his followers to be silent regarding his mission as Messiah. It is most prevalent in the Gospel of Mark, such as in Mark 8:29–30:

And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him. [ESV]
