A person holding a particular position of responsibility in a Christian group
An elder in Christianity is generally a person who holds a particular position of responsibility in a Christian group. In some traditions, an elder is a member of the clergy and fills pastoral offices. In others, an elder may be a lay person responsible for administration or shepherding the church. In the LDS Church, elder is an office of the Melchizedek priesthood.
