I have recently read letters of Simone Weil to a priest where she explains why she cannot be baptized. I was wondering whether there are some more "cases" of people like Weil, who are in a way drawn to Christianity but for some reasons or other cannot accept it.

I don't know exactly what you're looking for, or if this in any way fits the bill, but I think it's related: There's a podcast called Mormon Stories. When the podcast started, the host identified as a Mormon but used his platform to discuss some tough questions about the church, the leaders, the origin of the Book of Mormon etc.

As the podcast went on, some of the content upset some people in the church to the point that he got excommunicated - though interestingly, he still identified as a Mormon. I'm not sure why he did, but... he did.

I'm not sure he still identifies as a Mormon - a recent episode (that I haven't listened to) explores the question of whether Mormonism is a cult, so, perhaps not.

But I do think it's interesting that we have a podcast where you can observe in real time a mission-serving devout Mormon transition to excommunicated and comparing the church to a cult!
