Jan 30, 2017 at 16:49 | comment | added | depperm | @JontheArchitect that was not the intent, I was trying to tie them to attaining salvation, if you have a reference online that I could see I'll modify my answer to better fit the question and the Protestant beliefs

Sola Scriptura, for example is not a means to salvation but a means to doctrine. Solo Christo addresses the lack of need for mediators. Soli Deo Gloria addresses the exclusion of others for worship, such as Mary.

Jan 30, 2017 at 12:48 | comment | added | Nathaniel is protesting | I wouldn't say that all five solas refer to how salvation is attained. I haven't studied the question in depth but I'd say that that's true of faith alone, Christ alone, and grace alone. Scripture alone and glory to God alone are related but more tangential to salvation. Also – some Protestants believe that salvation can be lost.

If you, or anyone else, feels I've misrepresented either side let me know and I'll do my best to fix the answer
Jan 26, 2017 at 22:39 | comment | added | KorvinStarmast | My question may just be a sign of my ignorance. I don't know to what extent that they do, and I'd not be the right person to tell you how the five work together, as it's not my faith tradition. Since you clarified about the two, maybe my asking needs more research first for coverage on the relationships of the solae ... and then come back here to see if anything needs to be done at all.
Jan 26, 2017 at 22:35 | comment | added | depperm | @KorvinStarmast I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're asking. For the second half they work together and they don't. One is guaranteed the spiritual isn't. If you clarify I'll edit and update that the 5 solas work together.
Jan 26, 2017 at 22:01 | comment | added | KorvinStarmast | Would it be more accurate to present your bottom line as all five solas working together (in your first half) since you cited them all, or do I misunderstand how that works? As I understand the second half of your answer, the two elements of salvation work together. Did I get that right?
