I had heard an idea a while back that perhaps the flood describesdescribed in the Old Testament wasn't necessarily a Globalglobal, Worldwideworldwide flood, but that it was a world-wideworldwide flood in a human civilizationhuman civilization sense. So essentiallyIn other words, it wouldn't have been necessary to flood the whole world wouldn't have needed flooding in order to accomplish God's purpose of destroying corrupt humanity because theyhumanity hadn't yet covered the whole world yet.
Is such a view compatible with the Catholic Church's teachings on Genesis?
(I know that the Church takes no position on some Old testament events)
