Numbers 21:8 records:

The LORD said to Moses, "Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live."

and it seemed to work. I see no implied sacrifice here.

(Verse 9 in the NIV clarifies that Moses MADE a BRONZE snake. So there was no death.)
