comment Can you renounce part of the bible, and still be a Christian?
I'd say the important question is not whether you consider yourself a question, or even whether others consider you a Christian, but whether Christ considers you a Christian.

comment What is the basis upon which the concept that God and Allah are the same?
@stratton He's asking about a relationship between Christianity and Islam. If such a question is off limits on a Christianity site because it refers to Islam, presumably by the same reasoning it would be off limits on a Muslim site because it refers to Christianity. Unless someone creates a site just for asking questions about the relationships between different religions. And what's the point?

What I was trying to say was: Whether a Muslim is talking about an imaginary God, or whether he his talking about the real God but his conception of God is far off the mark, either way, he is not talking about the real God as he really is. A Muslim would be the last person to say "all religions are basically the same because we all worship the same God", so I think it's largely a moot point.

How is this more "opinion-based" than any other question asking for scriptural basis for a doctrine or theory? Either one can find relevant verses or not.

comment Why is the Vatican against “The son of God” movie?
"We haven't seen the whole movie but..." Okay, there's validity to that. But I always get a laugh when I read such a rebuttal to a critique of a book or movie, and then it becomes clear that the person writing the rebuttal didn't read the entire critique. (In this case I've neither seen the movie nor read the critique, so I have no opinion.)

comment Was Jesus present at the beginning of time.? Or when did the Trinity come into being?
I don't understand the "on hold as primarily opinion-based". Surely one can make Biblical or logical arguments for one position or another. Andreas Blass and Jeremy Houle both cite relevant Bible verses. Questions on here are routinely closed on the grounds that the purpose of this site is only to discuss what this or that denomination teaches, and not what is true. Surely one could answer this question in that spirit, quoting doctrinal positions of one denomination or another. What makes this question "opinion" and other not-closed questions not so?

comment The Burden of Proof
I agree with most of that but I must disagree with the last paragraph. (a) The Bible most certainly does deal with the material world. It's all about specific people doing specific things. (b) Atheists will say that Christianity is "unscientific" because there is no possible experiment that could prove it wrong ... and then they claim to prove it wrong. I agree that Christianity is not "scientific" in the sense of being testable like the theory of gravity can be tested in the laboratory. Christianity is primarily historical, and must be tested like a theory that Vikings discovered America ...
