.NET developer, insanely obsessed with security.
All this time thinking about whether or not you could, you never stopped to think about whether or not you should.

Why did God create the great flood? This is really just another variation of "If God is omnipotent, and God is good, why didn't He just create a universe where evil is impossible?" a.k.a. the problem of evil. It's addressed here: How to answer "Why do evil and suffering exist?" |

What is the evidence for the claim that Young Earth Creationism was the mainstream viewpoint in ancient times? I had addressed the literal 6 days part in an earlier edit, but took it out because I don't want to get sucked into the whole "Does 'day' really mean 'day'" argument. fredsbend addressed the part I removed, so it would be silly to add it back in when I can just vote him up. |

Is Latin considered a more holy language in the Catholic church? Your question is what I was really trying to ask in this one: christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/12267/… +1 for asking it more clearly. |

When and why did the modern Young Earth Creationism movement gain such a large following? @El'endiaStarman - MUCH better. ;-) |

When and why did the modern Young Earth Creationism movement gain such a large following? I assume, based on your quick acceptance of Bruce's answer that you're specifically looking for when did the modern YEC movement begin, as opposed to when did people first widely hold YEC views. There's a pretty big difference. The modern YEC movement is a rejection of the "scientific" rejection of the original YEC literal interpretation of the Genesis accounts. The literal interpretation of Genesis far predates Christianity. The modern movement is merely a reaction to the rejection of the original literal interpretation. |

When speaking of the book of Enoch, the answers given would seem to discredit the book, but then I ask myself, was it translated correctly? Very closely related, if not exactly a duplicate: christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/9268/… Also see christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/… But +1 from me because it's good to know how the reliability of Scripture is defended. |

What evidence supports the truthfulness of Christianity, over and above that which supports other religions? But I don't think it was worthy of down-votes.. Personally, I love the subject you brought up. There's a field of study called Apologetics that deals with just this question, and it's my favorite subject. This is the type question I'd love to address. Maybe you could take a manageable portion of it and make a series of questions that would fit? |

What evidence supports the truthfulness of Christianity, over and above that which supports other religions? It can be broken down into a hundred smaller questions - How do we know the Bible is historically accurate? How do we know it's been transmitted accurately over time? How do we know Jesus existed? How do we know He really died on the cross? How do we know His disciples didn't fake the resurrection? How do we know the miracles recorded in Scripture aren't just made up? What about all those Bible "contradictions"? Each of these have entire books written to address them. Even if this isn't a Truth question, it is simply far too large in scope for this forum as posted. |

What evidence supports the truthfulness of Christianity, over and above that which supports other religions? After reading your comments, I did consider voting to re-open this. As I said, if you're asking for the argument(s) rather than the validity of the arguments it would be within scope. However, there is another problem with it that is addressed directly in the FAQ. The scope of the question is too broad for an SE forum. Not only can a book be written about the subject, there are hundreds of books, and websites dedicated to answering that question, none of which are complete answers on their own. There are so many angles from which this can be tackled, it's simply too big for a question... |
