comment Is premarital sex πορνεία (porneia)?
@JimThio If the verses stating if a man sleeps with a virgin he is to take her as his wife, that means any non-virgin is either married, divorced, or widowed. Mark 10:11-12 states any divorced person who remarries commits adultery. I've found nothing about outside of marriage, but piecing together the laws, I believe it applies outside as well.

comment Why in the Book of Exodus did God let the people travel for exactly 40 years?
Deuteronomy 1:3 "In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the LORD had commanded him concerning them." While it is believed "40 days" is like saying "a month" today, it seems to me they were keeping track of their time pretty well

comment How do schisms in the church fit into the plans of a monotheistic God?
Forgive me if I'm missing something basic, I don't know canon law hardly at all. I'm just trying to learn a little more. The article on Latae sententiae lists heretics as the first bullet for automatic excommunication. So for an example, according to this and Can. 751, if a baptized Catholic decided it was fine to use an unaccepted form of birth control even though the priest tried to convince otherwise, that person should be excommunicated?

So under that canon law, if someone was baptized Catholic and later decided to be Protestant, the Catholic church would consider that person a heretic?

Good reference, that does push toward a "no" answer

comment Does Numbers 16 describe the first earthquake?
@MarcGravell While earthquakes are felt over very large areas, it is very possible to only have a small area split. As for evidence, I'm looking for any type that helps show one way or the other, whether scriptural or scientific

comment How can Jesus, born of mankind, be sinless?
Whether he was born with a sin nature or not, I don't know, but I am saying he never succumbed to the temptations
