I'm a hobbyist programmer, part-time sysadmin, and full-time data center management, automation, and cloud computing architect and delivery engineer.

I have experience with myriad editors, shells, and OSes. While I have my [strong] preferences, am pretty much beyond the religious wars of "what's best" when it comes to platform, editor, or toolset: if it works for the problem at hand, and you know it, it's [probably] worthwhile :)

comment LDS Church and Genealogy Research (What is the connection?)
interestingly, Ancestry.com is fairly rife with errors that only get corrected (if at all) by those whose legitimate research (and/or sense of logic) can fix the issues (an example from a friend of mine had a 2-year-old married to his 90-year-old great grandmother)

comment Was Phoebe a deacon?
@MattGutting - how do you suppose 1 Timothy was not written by Paul, when he identifies himself as the author in the letter?

comment Are intentional sins somehow “worse?”
@Pacerier - I have not changed my claim: all sins are equal in the sight of God. I never said "sins are not equal", except in the eyes of man.

@Pacerier - did you not read my initial comment from 2 years ago?

comment Are intentional sins somehow “worse?”
@Pacerier - God is just: and all sins are an affront to that justice. In God's eyes, there are no "levels" of sin - they are all equally-deserving of punishment. It is a human idea to assign "value" or "degrees" to sin.

comment Are intentional sins somehow “worse?”
@Pacerier - the Bible is clear that all sin is worthy of eternal punishment by God, since it is an affront to His perfect holiness

comment What does it mean for Christ to have been slain before the creation of the world?
The Burning Bush Appearance was [most likely] not a Christophany - it was God [the Father], as He calls Himself "I AM" to Moses, and while Jesus also calls Himself "I AM" when questioned by the Pharisees, that was an identification of Himself as coequal and coexistent with God the Father.

comment Does God create some people Heterosexual and others Homosexual?
@fredsbend perhaps your experience / reading has lead in a different direction, but I haven't heard that as a widespread claim in several years

@fredsbend - I don't think your statement "[a]lmost all think they are" is not very accurate.

Welcome to the site, Alex. This looks like a great start to a first question - but Christianity.SE is a little different from other sites out there. Please check out the tour to see how we're different :)

comment Are elders needed to have an “ordered” church?
"independent bible studies" are not churches :) .. if they were, no one could ever study on their own or be discipled unless a pastor was there with them.

comment Did Pontius Pilate follow God's Plan?
If it were the case that Pilate was saved merely for carrying out his part of God's plan, then Pharaoh must have been, too - but we know he wasn't.

comment What is Paul referring to in talking about the “thorn in his side”?
I think the "speech impediment" has some good credence based on 2 Cor 10:10 (biblehub.com/2_corinthians/10-10.htm) .. but that's all conjecture :)
