I'm a hobbyist programmer, part-time sysadmin, and full-time data center automation consulting engineer.

I have experience with myriad editors, shells, and OSes. And, while I'm an ardent emacs user, am pretty much beyond the religious wars of "what's best" when it comes to platform, editor, or toolset: if it works for the problem at hand, and you know it, it's [probably] worthwhile :)

comment Adam and Eve versus ecology
in what part of the story as recorded are "other humans who have been created at some point"?

comment Why is the use of certain common words offensive?
and on the cultural bit, "bloody" is minor or unoffensive in the US, but about the worst thing you can say in the UK (or at least was at one point)

comment Why is the use of certain common words offensive?
semi-related, Jesus referring to the scribes and pharisees as "hypocrites" was akin to some modern-day "cuss words"

comment How do Christians understand the omniscience of God in relation to the Uncertainty Principle?
@AdemRedwine, then we have a different presuppositional basis, and one that will ensure you won't find an answer

comment How do Christians understand the omniscience of God in relation to the Uncertainty Principle?
@AdamRedwine - do you accept God created the universe? If so, then the conclusion that he is bound by it is irrational - how else could miracles have taken place (raising the dead, feeding the 5000, walking on water, etc etc)?

comment How can suffering from natural causes be reconciled with an omnimax god?
@dancek - I agree, and would add it to the list on the VtC

comment To what extent did God establish a law prior to the Mosaic law?
There is a period of time from the fall to Cain and Abel's sacrifices - at least long enough for Cain and Abel to be old enough to be tending flocks and tilling the earth.

I do not think that word means what you think it means (osculate :)

comment Can Elders of a church be young?
@a_hardin - in general, "elder" "bishop" "pastor" "overseer" and a variety of other terms are used interchangeably when referencing those in authority in the church

comment Can I believe in evolution and still be a Christian?
@styfle - the English word "day" can mean a variety of things as well: it doesn't mean that it's always used that way, nor that using an alternate definition merely to mollify one's conscience or synchronize two accounts that otherwise are disharmonious is the proper application of hermeneutics and scripture applied to scripture :)

comment Are inter-faith marriages prohibited by the Bible?
@Flimzy - that is correct :) - "were to be saved after getting married"

comment Where does the belief that the Earth is relatively young (6000 years) come from?
@DJClayworth - the math is quite simple: I actually did it for the first several books of the Bible here: chronology.XLS (yes, it's an Excel file - i could make a pdf; if you'd be interested please leave a comment on the blog entry)

comment How did all the animals fit into Noah's ark?
@Marc Gravell - I am aware of the disputes: the fact remains that other wooden vessels have credibly been built in the same size order of magnitude

comment What does the Bible say Christians should or should not do on the Sabbath?
If not directly commanded, it is strongly implied there should be worship on the Lord's Day, however ;)

comment How did all the animals fit into Noah's ark?
@Marc Gravell - you are free to disagree with the article, but as other civilizations both around the time of, and after Noah built vessels in the same rough ballpark of size, the plausibility of the size Noah's Ark shouldn't be in much question. Additionally, see the references on Chinese junks (wooden) in the 15th century - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… - the dimensions of the "treasure ships" are within 10% of the length of the Ark

comment How did all the animals fit into Noah's ark?
@Marc Gravell - I'd point you to the excellent reference work here answersingenesis.org/articles/nab/really-a-flood-and-ark with regards to the feasibility of the dimensions as recorded

not to overstate the obvious, but how would you repent of a sin that ended your life prematurely?

comment What is the physical evidence for a local flood?
the modern understanding of "species" and the Biblical use of "kind" are not interchangeable and there is also no indication of "continents" prior to the flood (indeed, the creation account says the land was together)
