I'm a hobbyist programmer, part-time sysadmin, and full-time data center management, automation, and cloud computing architect and delivery engineer.

I have experience with myriad editors, shells, and OSes. While I have my [strong] preferences, am pretty much beyond the religious wars of "what's best" when it comes to platform, editor, or toolset: if it works for the problem at hand, and you know it, it's [probably] worthwhile :)

@Flimzy - "We're in contradiction of a small minority of Christians who take the creation account to be literal" .. which include Jesus & Paul :)

@Flimzy - I know many people do: but to be in contradiction of Paul and Jesus seems dangerous to me

@Flimzy - neither ignorant, nor trolling: if you discard Adam & Eve, you discard the gospel. And if you do that, you might as well pick a different religion.

@Flimzy - if they didn't, there's no point in being a Christian :)

comment LDS Church and Genealogy Research (What is the connection?)
I read the wikipedia page, too. And I've been in the data centers where Ancestry.com is run: they're owned and operated by the LDS church. Whether there's a legal distinction of ownership (Permira may "own" the service, but it's hosted and run by LDS) fact remains - it's effectively owned by the LDS church. Permira is based in Provo, just a few miles form the data center where it runs - and that's no coincidence :)

not according to the folks I've met and worked with at the LDS HQ that operate Ancestry.com :)

they haven't "partnered" with Ancestry.com - they own and run it

interestingly, Ancestry.com is fairly rife with errors that only get corrected (if at all) by those whose legitimate research (and/or sense of logic) can fix the issues (an example from a friend of mine had a 2-year-old married to his 90-year-old great grandmother)

comment Was Phoebe a deacon?
@MattGutting - how do you suppose 1 Timothy was not written by Paul, when he identifies himself as the author in the letter?
