I don't see how you derive "Hades was destroyed" from the quoted verses. Would you mind elaborating a little?

comment Is there any sense in being baptized as an adult after being baptized as an infant?
@Peter: What I would assume in that case is that everyone in the family who was eligible for baptism was baptized at that time, and the rest were baptized when they got older. Remember that Acts was not written to us in 2011, it was written to contemporary members of the church, and Luke wouldn't have had any reason to explain the details of something his audience already knew. It's like if I told you that I'm flying to California next month, you don't say "that's impossible, people can't fly!"; you implicitly understand that I'd be taking a plane. But an outsider might not get that.

@Peter: If it actually said that he had young children and they were baptized, then yes, that would make the baptism of young children a biblical doctrine. But as long as we have no record of that ever having actually happened, it's valid to regard it as a non-biblical doctrine. And as we have several scriptures which would seem to indicate that there are qualifications for baptism which young children do not meet, it's justifiable to regard it even as an anti-biblical doctrine.

@Peter: You're assuming that he had young children. I don't believe it actually says that anywhere. Does it?

comment How do you “Convert” somebody to Christianity?
Be careful with your terminology. Conversion is a personal matter between an individual and the Lord. You can teach someone the Gospel, but if they aren't willing to listen and open their heart, they will never become converted no matter what you do. If you think of "converting somebody" as something that you do rather than something that they do, you might end up thinking you have failed when in reality you honestly made your best effort and the other person simply wasn't open to the Spirit.

comment How can I be sure someone I know is going to Heaven?
No, I'm telling you that you are taking Matthew 7 out of context. It's speaking specifically of people claiming to be prophets, and how you can judge whether or not this claim, specifically, is true. It says nothing about knowing of a surety whether or not a person is righteous in general.

comment How can I be sure someone I know is going to Heaven?
These are all things that cannot be externally verified, except by God. Truly monstrous people can and do walk among us without giving any outward appearance that they're anything but wonderful, pious, upstanding members of the community and the church. I know this one from personal experience. I called such a man "dad" for seven years of hell-on-earth, and no one outside my immediate family ever suspected a thing.

comment Why do some Christians believe it is moral to be a homosexual?
First, let's get the terminology straight. We should differentiate between "homosexuality" as the word is understood today, and homosexual acts, which is a different matter.
