What does the LDS Church (Mormon) teach about marriage and polygamy in the afterlife? I disagree with the bit about "the woman would be the wife of the earliest celestially worthy husband". I have never heard that taught. What I hear instead is "we don't know; we assume and have faith that whatever happens will be fair and just for all involved, and that all involved will be happy with the outcome." |

What significance, if any, does the doctrine of the eternal virginity of Mary have? +1 for the parallel between Mary and the Ark. That's neat. :) |

How does the LDS doctrine of assurance compare to the Methodist doctrine of assurance? +1 More accurately, in LDS theology, having one's "calling and election made sure" is the Assurance, and receiving the Second Anointing is one of the main ways that can happen. I would also dispute that salvation is based on works. Ultimately, anyone who is saved is saved by the grace of Jesus Christ. Our works help us qualify to receive that grace, but the works themselves are insufficient for salvation. |

Why do Christians need to promote their religion to non-believers? @Yeodave I know things you do not, and you know things I do not. That in and of itself does not make us arrogant. Me trying to teach you new things does not make me arrogant. What makes me arrogant is my attitude, not my knowledge. Put another way, arrogance is a result of attitude, not information, and not behavior. Behaviors can be manifest because of arrogance, but the behavior itself does not cause it. |

Why do Christians need to promote their religion to non-believers? @Yeodave If they're happy and not interested, great. The proselyters should move on to the next door. If they want to try and "push their belief system on you", the proselyters should politely decline and graciously leave. |

How does LDS doctrine reconcile monotheism with men becoming gods? @Flimzy Yes, they are. For that I'll link you this question and answer and this article on The Godhead (The Godhead is the LDS "version" of the Trinity). |

How does LDS doctrine reconcile monotheism with men becoming gods? Again, within the scope of our existence, there is no other God. Even in LDS writings, mention of other beings like God is cursory, since they are irrelevant to our salvation. |

How does LDS doctrine reconcile monotheism with men becoming gods? as I understand it, that's akin to saying "thou shalt have no other gods before me". Basically "I'm your God, and no one else is". It helps to think of "God" as a title denoting one who is worthy of worship. Beings who are like the Father but are not Him should not be worshipped, because they are not our creators. They have nothing to do with our existence. |
