IT geek, poet, novelist that enjoys theological studies and gaming. Ok so I'm an overall enigma but if I wasn't, then I wouldn't be me.

comment Is there really a Catholic “blessing for bacon?”
@CharlesAlsobrook - I never learned that either in catechism class LOL but it would have made it more interesting!

@JamesT Apparently this whole bacon prayer thing yields another interesting find on a Catholic forum - found the answer to the question I had. If one wants to be rather literal, Saint Anthony the Abbott could be considered the patron Saint for bacon. He's the patron Saint of animals, pigs/swine. drstandley.com/saints_stanthonytheabbott.shtml

So I Googled - and found this: catholic.org/prayers/prayer.php?p=371. I have to wonder, is there a patron Saint for this as well?

comment Where are the majority of Roman Catholic converts from today?
That's what I was commenting on, the fact that they really are not converts. It's like a label that doesn't quite fit. To be honest, not completely. I learned from outside influences such as my grandparents, family friends, my own friends and my own curiosity.

I like how you have converts in quotations with your 4th point - it does make me wonder though, are they really converts if they are born into a family that is Roman Catholic and are raised as such, never leaving the Roman Catholic Church?

comment Why has Mary Magdalene been portrayed as a prostitute?
@BenDunlap on the penitent side, perhaps it's showing others that Jesus and God forgive those who walk in His light? Not the best way to describe it but that's the gist that I'm getting from the word and how she represents it in relation to Christ - striving to move past those sins and truly want a relationship with the Father.
