comment Is there any evidence for the claim that the Catholic church suppressed translation of Scripture?
@IgnatiusTheophorus you seem extreamly biased towards the church not banning. Also the question deals with medieval times, which 1956 does not qualify as. You can not use that then as 'proof' that 1000 years ago translations were appropriate, common, and acceptable...

@El'endiaStarman I know, I've participated in elections before. It was just a sentiment that I thought you were all doing a bang up job.

@Narnian that would be the advent of middle English, when french was introduced to the language and it became less of a Germanic language. Old English is much older then that, but is much more related to German then it is to modern English.

@Caleb do you know if Mason is also going to run? I think all the mods have been doing a great job, and I would vote for all 4 of you.

This is the correct answer, though the other one is also ok.

comment Did the pope choose sides between the Allies and the Axis in World War 2?
@MasonWheeler I can't agree with that. 9 million Jews lived in Europe. So if 6 million were killed that's 2 out of every three Jews in Europe dead... And you know where 2.5 million of those Jews that survived lived? In Russia and Great Britain. Beyond the reach of the Germans. That means out of 6.5 million central and western European Jews only 500,000 survived. And frankly the pope had very little to do with any of those surviving... Which means your argument is entirely invalid.

comment Christian denominations that view Jesus as a human moral teacher?
I believe only the Jehovah's Witnesses profess this type of view.

comment Do Mormons/LDS believe that the Bible in any way predicts the coming of Joseph Smith?
@Narnian besides the scripture from the JST of the bible, Matt's answer is pretty strait forward. As a note, the JST isn't the standard bible used by the LDS church. The KJV is. Also while not exactly related to Joseph Smith Ezeikiel 37: 15-19 is often used to point to him and the Book of Mormon (vs. 19 for Joseph making the Bible and Book of Mormon one book).

Can you share what scripture(s) you are talking about?

comment What is the “new doctrine” that Leo Tolstoy mentions in *Anna Karenina*?
@zefciu that would depend on who's definition of orthodox your using. Tolstoy's or the Churches? If the Orthodox church was being hevily influcenced by these philosophies their perspective would be that those philosophies are in fact orthodox. Which would mean someone who rejected them would have views as you said "far from orthodox".

Matt is correct. Incidentally what discussion were you listening to? I may be able to expound a little more on the discussion as related to your question if I am able to listen to it.

comment What will happen to the Trinity when the Bride of Christ is revealed?
@waxeagle I think that anyone who has a belief in God as defined in the trinity, could answer this question. I believe that this question is getting downvoted because of people disagreeing with the thought that this provokes, not because of the content.

comment Which denominations follow prosperity theology?
As it stands this is an interesting question but it is also a list question or even a yes/no question. Maybe you want to narrow the scope and make it more about the biblical origins? Otherwise @AffableGeek has already answered with a 'yes'.

Eric, welcome to the site. Please take some time to expand your answer. I also belong to the LDS church and would like to expound here but I don't want to step on your toes. Thanks.

comment Are the early followers of Christ considered Christians or Jews in today's context? If not, when was the religion created?
@BruceAlderman I thought about removing the second part altogether but it did receive an answer from AffGreek so I wasn't sure what to do cause I didn't want to make the effort he expended worth nothing. I agree with you though about this not being the place for that.

@BruceAlderman and Dan, I edited your question and changed the title. I believe that my edit asks the same question still but just clarifies what your after.

@PeterTurner Obviously, this is a historical angle, I'm not trying to attack your beliefs. Sorry if my posts came across in such a manner.

@PeterTurner also if you study Jewish wedding tradition for that time period. You would know that there was no marriage without consummation. Consummation was what finalized the marriage contract.
