Is it possible to know God from nature? Check out the transcendentalists: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcendentalism |

Is there a name for believing but not obeying? If everyone is a sinner then what you said applies to every Christian to some extent. So the answer would be "a normal person"? |

Is Christian mysticism an oxymoron or is it a legitimate path for a Christian? By mysticism, are you referring to the belief that direct knowledge of a god can be attained through subjective experience or though intuition? That is the definition in English at least. |

How has God destroyed the wisdom of the wise? This is a good example why higher education is important. While the translation is rather pretty, confusing people for all eternity with poor technical wring is not good. |

Does the Bible say anything about what demons *are*? A lot of our ideas about heaven, hell, demons and angels actually come from fiction like dante's Inferno (the book not the video game) |

Can we pray from any position? If you pray up-side down you risk potentially serious complications if you have high blood pressure, heart disease or glaucoma. |

Respectful ways to explain my non-belief to Christians @David Heffernan The same wording came to my mind too as a bit of a pun, with no insult intended. I thought Cisco's was making a bit of a joke too. I agree with you: where you are is certainly significant. In the U.S. you are probably pretty safe proudly proclaiming your atheism in universities not sponsored by religious groups, or groups such as the National Academy of Sciences etc. Having served the executive branch of the government I would not recommend getting into religion there because there is definitively a "good 'ol boy" network in many of its institutions. |

Who created God? Just a philosophical point: The concept that something that exists had to be created is not necessarily true. As Humans we commonly see most things in our lives coming from some action or activity like building a bridge, baking a pie, or planting a seed. However if you believe in things like the big bang theory where the universe always was but just undergoes a periodic cyclical change, or you believe in an immortal omnipotent god, these things simply always were, and were never created. Try thinking of it this way: Is there any reason why something could not have just always been? |

Respectful ways to explain my non-belief to Christians @ciscol I agree 100% with you. I am just saying there could be some consequences, and hopefully zipquincy is prepared for the worst. |

Respectful ways to explain my non-belief to Christians Oh I am rather ashamed at recommending that you be a closet atheist. Perhaps you will choose to fight the good fight. Here is a pew study showing some demographics that may help: religions.pewforum.org/reports |

Respectful ways to explain my non-belief to Christians There are a number of studies out there whose results yielded many devout Christians and other people REALLY distrust Atheists. I would recommend not telling people especially co-workers unless you know them really well. One article is blog.lib.umn.edu/edgell/home/…. Personally I trust them more than most radical religious people, but that's just my opinion. |
