I am a scripting language connoisseur, regular expression aficionado, network geek, general lover of Linux and a frequent contributor to open source software. I transitioned to programming from other work because I was too busy automating my own work environment to actually do the other work. I have a hobby interest in cartography. For more see my personal site. Most importantly, my life is defined by the grace of God given to men through Jesus Christ. It is my ambition that everything I do would reflect His glory and point people towards Him.

comment Moses - did he kill thousands?
If you just want to criticize a text, at least read and comment on what it actually says. This is not what the the Bible says (and you have nothing else on which to base these numbers). Moses didn't kill all the first born. He didn't even order it. He just bore the warning from God that it was going to happen. Same with most of these other cases. Moses was a murderer, but this accounting is representative of neither history nor the Bible's account nor Christianity's beliefs. As such I'm not sure what it's doing as an answer here at all.

comment Do Protestants believe Jesus and Satan are brothers?
@PaulDraper No, not as in born. Very specifically not as in born. That would mean there were two separate (and physical) beings. That belief is one way Mormonism is completely and irreconcilably different from the rest of Christianity.

comment Did only Jesus human body remain in the grave for the three days?
This does not answer the question: it tells us nothing about Christianity. It only tells us the beliefs of one Christian (you) and how you reached that position without even touching on where this belief fits into Christianity, whether it is representative of more than just yourself or what the other positions are. This question specifically asks for those things (and even if it didn't this is an expectation for all questions on this site without specific viewpoint limitations).

comment Do Christians and Muslims worship the same God?
@FMS I think you've clean missed the point of the post here. Of course if it's a different God altogether being worshiped we have to use different words to describe the error. Idolatry is fine. The question here is about what happens if you were trying to worship the right God by the wrong name (or with different attributes). This is what Catholicism affirms by the way (I tend to disagree, but that's beside the point). In that case it is not a matter of idolatry but of blasphemy. And in answer to your question, the blasphemy is against God of course. That's the proposition here.

@FMS I already noted very clearly that Catholicism is an exception when it comes to this issue. They have equivocated so much on the issue it's difficult to make any statement at all that universally applies to Catholicism. However I think you are wrong about that particular definition. Even the words of the catechism point you link to suggest that things "contrary to the respect due God and his holy name" are blasphemy. What is ascribing to God attributes of another God—attributes that according to Scripture are contrary and even repulsive to his nature—if not contrary to the respect due him?

@FMS and then what? You disagreed? The definition you link too is very weak and not at all representative of the common connotations in the context of religion. It might be an accurate etymology but it falls short of being useful as a definition.

@Richard It would help if SE staff wouldn't set a bad example by miss-using the comment feature.
