comment Why does God not show Himself beyond reasonable doubt?
@Pacerier Right, I can't disagree with that.I feel this falls into the "Extraordinary claims requires extraordinary evidence" which is why Pythagoras and Jesus aren't comparable. For example, if my friend tells me he's going to the shop I have no reason to doubt it, whereas if my friend tells me he's going to fly to the shop with magical powers, it becomes unreasonable to believe him since magical powers of the sort have never been demonstrated.

comment Why is the Bible subject to a high level of interpretation?
@Flimzy I don't know how you can say that when there are thousands or more varieties of Christian denomination, many of which exist because they have interpreted the bible in different ways to the others.

@Flimzy With the Bible each interpretation can wildly differ (sometimes regardless of the authors knowledge of context and history). It's definitely subject to higher levels of interpretation than everyday language. The question is why?

@Narnian "It seems you have put a great deal of faith into suspect dating methods without admitting any possibility of inaccuracy". Wrong. From the very start I admitted no dating method has 100% accuracy. I quote myself: "No measuring method is 100% accurate". The question should be: are dating methods accurate enough to be useful (when used appropriately). The answer is yes.

@Narnian Have you actually looked into and tried to test any of these things you are presenting as evidence of a young earth? The 'science' is bad. Moon Recession. Moon Dust. The moon is still spinning, seriously? What's going to stop it from spinning - you know newtons laws right? Magnetic field. "all the planets just happen to still be in orbit with the sun" What does this prove?

@Narnian In addition to the talk origins article, this is the wikipedia article on radioactive decay (with citations). In particular, read the last paragraph.

@Narnian If you're taking about thousands of millions of years, having an accuracy range of hundreds of millions of years doesn't seem bad - and the measurement is obviously better than nothing. As for your second point, read: talkorigins.org/indexcc/CF/CF210.html. The important part being that tests have been made on sources 60 million and billions of light years away and still have the same decay rate as us now.

@Narnian 1. No measuring method is 100% accurate. Two people measure something with a ruler, they give answers that are 1cm different. Should you no longer accept ruler measurements? 2. Dating methods actually give confidence values for their measurements, they would never give a single result with absolute confidence. So if two measurements differ yet are inside the expected variance, this is no issue. 3. Dating methods aren't randomly invented, for them to be even considered a means of dating means they have been tested time and time again.

Also, it's not only atheists who doubt the existence of or divinity of Jesus.

"The people who knew him" Those people you listed did not meet Jesus. "Oh so later testimony holds more sway for you" No, not at all - I'm not sure where you got that from. "historians of his day", I wouldn't call centuries after his death his day. I can easily believe that some historians wrote about Jesus after hearing about him. Now did that Jesus actually exist, and was that the same Jesus as described in the NT is another question.

The absence of contemporary evidence is a reason to doubt the historicity of Christ. youtube.com/… "There are zero historical references for 100 years"

Masons points are biblically supported, are people are down-voting simply because they do not like the conclusion?

comment Why and how do Creationists agree with microevolution but disagree with the idea of macroevolution
I have heard this argument before. For anyone interested this blog entry demonstrates why this is incorrect. It's due to a misunderstanding of entropy, in a similar way that some people think star formation violates the 2nd law).
