@AffableGeek I always had a hard time understanding the Bible..it's getting easier as I grow older and experience more things, but every reference they give to heart or soul was pretty difficult for me to understand.

comment How do I get more faith?
1. I'd say that a lack of faith might effect my morals in so far as to exclude the things that I am frightened of happening because of something wrong that I did. 2. I wouldn't say that Christianity doesn't make sense. To me it makes sense because it's been proven to convey morals to people for quite sometime. 3. I'd say knowing the truth, but nobody not even scientists can really know the whole truth; they can only know enough about a specific area.

That said, your probably right, I still haven't answered why I want to have faith. Probably because I never had alot of faith in myself, or humanity on its own, or in other people to do the right thing.

I'd just so much rather look at the truth for what it is, as a survival tactic so I can react when I need to rather than to just have faith and leave it in Gods hands which may or may not be there...*sigh* I really don't like it though. I was probably raised in "Cognitive Dissidence", but I'm not sure about that.

So I'm still not really settled on this. I can't pick a side to be on as it were. I kept my faith as a kid because of the miracles I saw. But I'm starting to loose it as an adult, probably because the country is falling apart, and the past ten years of my life have been not acceptable in my view, and thus I'm starting to lose faith; I'm looking for alternative truths, because relying on God didn't seem to do the trick! What successes I have made were from hard work on my own part. I don't want to believe it, but it's appearing to be the conclusion I've come to from my experiences.

But on the other hand, growing up I saw alot of things at Church that I thought were miracles, and I don't really have any evidence to back up that they really were or really weren't miracles. Weird things, like people being healed, icons weeping, that sort of thing. I still can't explain them.

Oh sure you have atheists that are claiming to be "good" but they were probably raised by people who were something other than an atheist. I guess I'm just really concerned about morals being able to withstand the sudden shift in values that the US seems to be facing. I'm afraid with the loss of religion, we will also loose our morals.

This is more along the lines of how I think, and why it is seemingly incompatible with Faith...I guess I just need to decide which is more important to me. See I understand how cognitive dissonance is very important for not being duped into things, in fact I have a hard time staying in a relationship for the very same reason. But at the same time I'm concerned that without religion of some sort, mankind will not ad-hear to a higher standard and greed and ignorance will take over because there is nobody to "answer to".
