This does not answer the question. Perhaps it points to an answer, but you should at least summarize the answer here.

comment What changed between the Old and New Testaments?
I'm sure a summary statement like yours is possible, but that's still only one interpretation of many. I guess I thought you were asking for answers from the SB background, since you mentioned that, but then I now see that you also are asking for a broader answer, so perhaps I was wrong to add that tag.

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of books on this topic. I'm afraid it's far too big an issue--with far too many varying opinions--to really be addressed here.

comment What would be a typical Christian Pacifist response to 'rampant evil' - say in the form of large scale terrorism?
@robertbristow-johnson: The Amish refuse to participate in politics at all. Some Mennonites may do the same, but it's hardly a defining characteristic of Mennonite culture--at least where I'm from.

comment Verses that argue with those who are athiests?
@ShemSeger: That's not really true. Atheism was well known even during the time of Christ. In fact, the Jews were often accused of being atheists, because they didn't worship statues--and the Holy of Holies, where their god resided, was empty!! You can't accuse an entire race of being atheistic if the concept isn't well known.
