comment if homosexuality is a sin, why isn't abstinence?
@Jay I've also had a heterosexual family member die of AIDS. Whether or not homosexuality causes AIDS is a scientific debate--not pertinent to Christianity or the Bible.

fair enough, I suppose

Are you talking about the assumption that homosexuality is a sin? Because I was under the impression that within the scope of Christianity, the sinfulness of any act and the reasons therewith were objectively verifiable via the Bible.

Not true. Given that what is and isn't a sin is fully enumerated in the Bible. Which is a objective, expository source, and claims therewith are fully verifiable and subject to citation.

There was no attempt to solicit a debate. I just clarified my question in response to your downvote and your reason therewith.

We don't hold opposing views. What makes this any different than when a person is born with cancer? Just because someone was born a certain way does that mean that God intended it?

How is a homosexual act using the power to procreate? If it does not have the power to procreate, how is it using said power? It seems to fall under the same category as sexual acts other than intercourse. And what I am saying is that to say homosexuality is wrong on the grounds that it does not result in procreation is contradictory--because it would imply that anything that doesn't result in procreation is a sin. What sets homosexuality apart from any other act that does not result in procreation? And I challenge you to find fallacy in such a question.

made the title sound more neutral, hopefully killing the noise that this is an advice question

No, I mean who is to say that we're not both right?

I guess a chat would be good. I don't want to get into too many more details here, since I know this is a not-so-well understood topic--even outside the Christian community. I'll also modify the question to make it more impartial, so as to avoid any "potentially awkward" discussions coming up in this thread. But, a chat room would be cool :)

Because this argument that this is an "advice" question is so prolific, then from here on out I will speak in the third person (even though it really doesn't make a difference...the question is the same), so as to alleviate the perception of a partiality towards myself. The thing that makes this such a difficult question to answer is that who is to say that God didn't intend for a transgender person to be his/her preferred gender, just as He intended someone born with cancer not to have cancer?

@Mike Yes, I was born male but am now fully accepted as female. I have breasts (they're real), but have not gone through any kind of surgery (nor do I intend to). The difficulty that I have with this question though is that I'm a virgin, and am not attracted to men. Does the Bible say anything about that?

@DJClayworth I'm not seeking advice, nor do I need it. My question is strictly impartial. What I am asking is whether or not it is a sin, which can be answered completely objectively and bears no contingency on my personal connection to the issue. That being said, what I am asking is what the Bible says about it, as I have seen nothing about the subject mentioned in the Bible.

Makes sense, I suppose. So even when guys get vasectomies in their 40's after they're married, that's a sin? It never occurred to me that that might be a sin
