What do Christians mean by a “personal relationship” with Jesus? Jesus talks about love for God and love for others together in Matthew 22:34-40. Here's 22:37-39 NIV: Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ So I'm satisfied that God loves us (John 3:16 and many others) and that we are supposed to love God -- I'm interested in what the "relationship" part between us and God (or us and Jesus) is supposed to look like. |

What do Christians mean by a “personal relationship” with Jesus? "But that relationship means that we have to both speak (through prayer) and listen (through all the ways that God talks with us). That, ultimately, is what a relationship is. A give and take; both speaking and listening." -- That's helpful, thank you! (+1) (Your statement about "all other religions" might be a bit sweeping, though -- although I do understand the comparison you are drawing.) |
