@Caz: thaks for the answer, I see how you personally got to it. However I ask, what was your experience that brought you to Jesus and also, "if I believe one part of the Bible as literal truth then I must also believe the whole thing." - Why is that? most Christians believe both literal and figurative sections exist in parallel, so why is this so different for you?

@RyanFrame: I never realized there were different answers to this question, I always assumed they were humans...I mean if they weren't humans, then that seems to change something on a very fundamental level in my mind....
