How should Selah be read? It would actually be a duplicate at BH.SE anyways: Translation of "Selah" (סֶלָה) |

Does the Nicene Creed condemn Chiliasm? yes, I'm of the opinion that Chiliasm was never officially condemned, it more or less just died out until the Reformation, partly because it had an unhealthy tendency to always try to predict the end of the world and identify the antichrist (according to Jaroslav Pelikan, Justo Gonzalez, and others). I agree with your conclusions, it seems to jive best with the scholarly historical works I've read. Thanks for a great answer! |

Why did Rome and Constantinople split in 1054 AD? Don't forget the sack of Constantinople in the 4th crusade (1204), that's one reason why most Orthodox laity oppose reunification. However, Pope John Paul II actually apologized for this a few years ago. |

What is the difference between Calvinist “nature” and “nature” in the sense of the Hypostatic union? I'm curious to see if anyone answers this without actually espousing heresy (mono/miaphysitism, monothelitism, etc.) :P |

What is the difference between Calvinist “nature” and “nature” in the sense of the Hypostatic union? I think I could answer this over a beer or coffee, but it requires a lot of historical data to write it all out :P |

What is the difference between icons and idols in churches that permit icons? You know, there is a lot of overlap between this and other similar questions. Not sure which one to answer on. Honestly, I don't want to spend the time with all the overlap (I'd have to break my answer up between questions). I encourage you to read about the Iconoclastic Controversy in the East and read the arguments for and against. I highly recommend this book for more detailed information. |
