comment According to the scripture, when and how is the world destroyed?
On the topic of fire but not the end of the world, part of the message of the Marian apparition at Akita, Japan (1973) is this: "If men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead." Link: is.gd/IDBR4G

comment Is the threat of exposing sin a disqualifying event for a pastor?
I made the assumption of it being confession; if it's outside of confession then it would be detraction.

Again, speaking only in a Catholic situation, if a priest were to threaten to violate the seal of the confessional that needs to be brought to the attention of the bishop immediately. If you're concerned about the bishop not being helpful or even making matters worse you could appeal directly to Rome (though if you don't trust the diocese you won't want to try to go through anyone in your diocese for this). It has to be addressed by someone with jurisdiction in the matter, which is the local bishop and the Pope.

comment Does Scientology claim to be Christian?
It's interesting to me how many prominent Scientologists used to be Roman Catholics. A partial list includes: Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, John Travolta, Catherine Bell, and Jenna Elfman (and those were just the ones I could find quickly). I know the Catholic Church has had issues since Vatican 2 but this seems disproportional.

comment What evidence do we have today about Christian groups not represented at the first four ecumenical councils?
Perhaps the short link isn't working: here's the longer one: books.google.com/books?id=4XsoAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA3 -- I was able to download it in PDF format as well and can post that online for you in that format if it would help. It's the January 1899 editions of the America Ecclesiastical Review, btw.

comment Priestly blessings via alternate media
Peter: you might want to change the title of this blessing to "Papal Blessings" rather than "Priestly blessings" because I don't know if anyone other than the Pope can issue a blessing that is valid via live telecommunication. I should have noticed this point and said something earliers...

comment Can man judge whether God is fair?
Might not have been the best example. Then again, the one who judges God is, by definition, doing something irrational.

comment Why is the Bible so short?
The author of Lord of the Rings didn't imbue the content with such profound significance and wisdom that one could spend their lives studying a single chapter and still not extract or understand all of the possible meaning that was put there (and which survives translations and mis-translations without losing the essential meaning!).
