Having not grown up within a Church community, my understanding of the Bible is a little different than that of most Western church goers. So I am here to see how our opinions differ or come together.

Why do Matthew and Luke contain genealogies of Jesus, while Mark and John do not? Probably because Matthew was a tax collector and Luke was a doctor. Both of them found details to be of utmost importance? Mark provides a general overview of Jesus's life whereas John only focuses on his ministry so the whole genealogy wouldn't make sense in these two books. |

Why is circumcision not a requirement for Christians? @DavidMorton Christ said to his Jewish audience that anyone who teaches anyone to not follow the least of these commandments will be the least in the kingdom of God. I tend to follow Jesus rather than Paul unless they're both in agreement. Secondly, and this is to jayyeshu's point above too. Jesus saying that righteousness should surpass that of the Pharisees does not indicate that we can't follow the law. It just means that merely appearing to follow the law (checking off a list) is not enough. You actually have to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and might. |

Why is circumcision not a requirement for Christians? @DavidMorton continued...he was held up as a model BY GOD for other kings to follow. And if a king came close to David, he was considered a good king and if one fell short of David he wasn't. Now we all know, from David's stories in the Bible, that he wasn't perfect as you or I would judge him but like I said, God is the one who decides, not you, not me and not Paul. As for you disagreeing with the gist of Deuteronomy...you can disagree all you want but until you provide something from the Tanakh then I'm afraid your disagreement is merely your opinion. |

Why is circumcision not a requirement for Christians? @DavidMorton Your question to me whether I've followed the entirety of the law or not shows that you're completely missing the point of my comments and that's fine. It hasn't happened for the first time that Christians generally ignore it when I say that the law is applicable to the Jews and NOT the Gentiles. Secondly, you and I aren't judges of who has followed the law in its entirety. Paul isn't the judge of it either, which is where most Christians would put their hands up and call me a heretic, but God is the judge. David is the perfect example of someone who was held up as a model BY GOD |

Why is circumcision not a requirement for Christians? Sorry saw your answer after I replied to your comment below. You can reply to my comment below here so we don't hog the other answer. By the way, if Christ fulfilled the requirements of the LAW then why does "not murder" not apply seeing that that was a commandment given to Noah (even Cain was punished for murder way before Noah) before the Law. Or do you consider Genesis part of the Law? |

Why is circumcision not a requirement for Christians? @DavidMorton not sure you're addressing my points at all with your "not an iota" comment. I never said the requirements don't stand. Reread my comments. After two comments explaining my first comment, they're clear enough. As for whether following the law is impossible, I beg to differ, and so does Deuteronomy 30:11-14 |

Why is circumcision not a requirement for Christians? And to avoid more confusion. When I mentioned Gentiles I was certainly not talking about slaves that belonged to Abraham's household. Probably could have made that clearer from the get go. Again, in the context of what I wrote Gentiles have never been required to circumcise. Jews have both in the past and now. The law doesn't disappear with Jesus and the law never says to the Jews "if you're circumcised in the heart, that's all I need." |

Why is circumcision not a requirement for Christians? I wrote my comment very carefully. I said "Abraham's household". I am sure if you read these passages carefully you'll realize that slaves are considered part of the household. No foreigner living outside Abraham's household (household doesn't mean the same house, this isn't modern times) is asked or required to circumcise. Same things apply to Israelites and their slaves. |

Why is circumcision not a requirement for Christians? The Law is not the same as the Prophets which you seem to be quoting from. Other than that, the Prophets are unanimous on both circumcision of flesh and "heart" to be important. Not one or the other. However, the requirement of circumcision goes back to the household of Abraham. It has got nothing to do with Gentiles. God never, neither in the Tanakh nor in the New Testament, required circumcision from Gentiles. Read for example Jonah where the Ninevites were only asked to repent and nothing else. I would venture on and say that circumcision is as applicable to Jews today as it was in the past |

How was the gift of the word of knowledge defined by the pioneers of the pentecostal healing revival vimeo.com/25341979 Is this the sort of thing you're looking for? Its a video of Branham where he claims to know about people's sickness and their state. This fits with what Grant said was the definition of "the gift of the word of knowledge". I would write an answer but I haven't found anything specific written about it by these men but I'll keep looking. |

What is the Biblical basis for the Catholic teaching that infant baptism cleanses from original sin? This might not really answer your question but the Wikipedia article seems legit: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infant_baptism#History |

Is Jesus God? Or part of God? These verses are from Gospels, what they tell is that Jesus can't be God 1. Jesus is both God and man. 2. Read Psalm 22 as Jesus is reciting it. 3. Not sure why this needs any explanation whatsoever. The part where he says the Father is greater than I is a reference to the roles of Godhead. 4. Again, what was the bombshell here that proves that Jesus couldn't be God? 5. Read the whole story where Jesus seems to merely be correcting the young man's understanding, Jesus wasn't merely a teacher, he was much more than that. I'm voting to close this question as you seem to have plucked these verses out of context in what seems like a hunt for an argument. |

Are there any references to “four canonical Gospels” prior to 100 AD? @DavidStratton Isn't the Magdalene Papyrus also given a more accepted date of around 200 AD based on the style of writing that wasn't in use in the first century? The dates of both the first century and the fourth are not generally accepted. |
