I am a web application developer working in PHP/MySQL/JQuery and related technologies. I also have attended two years of seminary. I am puritan in my theology and would point to the Westminster Standards as a good guide for theological questions.

comment What are the major differences between the NKJV and the ESV translations?
Sorry, missed that. I am glad to hear that they are now taking the MT more seriously, however you have not given me an example where they PREFER a byzantine reading. All this tells me, as I understan it, is that they are deciding between two Alexandrian readings and giving more weight to a Byzantine reading in the process.

Okay, can you give me an example from Nestle-Aland.

Can you give me a specific example where a Byzantine MT reading overshadows a Alexandrian or Western reading in the CT? I agree that, if they agree it is considered to add weight, but they never follow the Byzantine away from the other families that I know of.

I suppose that when you say this you mean that any text can be a "critical text" but that is not what I mean. In scholarly circles the Critical Text has specific meaning, a text based primarially on the Alexandrian family of documents with some influence from the Western family, completely ignoring the Byzantine family of texts which comprise 90%+ of the available biblical texts. The fact that they ignore the largest and most consistent family of texts, and instead chose to take texts that are much less consistent and then decide for themselves what is God's word worries me.

Are you saying that wine is improper to use? If they used it back in Christ's day why not now? Also can you support with some documentation your statement that they mixed their wine with water, especially at the passover feast?

Okay, then if it doesn't really matter, they why does Paul even bother to waste ink on the topic? In your view do the angels suddenly stop being offended?

comment What is the Biblical basis for 'term eldership'?
@Flimzy I kind of tend to think that there are some verses that apply directly here. Also could it be that there is a valid negative argument here. No terms are ever given for any Biblical offices.

comment What is the biblical basis for lifetime eldership?
@SamuelWarren I agree. I believe that elders can be more or less active. Some even go emeritus whatever that is :-) but I believe that the calling of an elder is for life. Just want scriptural backing for it.

comment What did Calvin think about Knox's “Monstrous Regiment”?
Wow, misogyny is a pretty strong word here. Have you actually read this tract yourself. Many misunderstand the title. The word "Regiment" in the title means rule. So what he is speaking against was the rule of women. If you are simply thinking that saying that those who say that women should not rule are hateful to women I would ask what you think of Paul in 2 Tim 2:12‌? If you are responding to his specific words about the Mary's, have you studied what they actually did?

@Jay it is not just a cup but "this" cup. That is the point here.

No problem @Eric.

Like your response. As a paedo-baptist I would look to the household baptisms and especially the household circumcisions of the OT and say that all in the household should be baptized, unless they specifically resist.

Like your answer @Eric, much of what I have heard in the past. However you have not answered all of my question.

@Flimzy Sorry, one more here. I see your point, but the question is what did he make meaningful, Pepsi?

@Jay also, if you look at Paul's exhortation and instruction to the Corinthian church he mentions nothing except the bread and the cup. That is why we consider those of more importance than other elements.

@Jay The example in scripture is of the early church breaking 'The Bread' from house to house. So clearly the authoritative practice of the church recorded in scripture is to not hold communion only on passover, that is why you have not heard Christians calling for that practice. :-)

@Flimzy I think that if you take that as your use of scripture then you can end up wherever you like. Dangerous. Also do you really think that Pepsi is an accurate representation of Christ's blood? Again, not our meal but His meal. Not just any meal but the passover with Christ as our Pascal lamb 1 Cor 5:7.

comment Is the threat of exposing sin a disqualifying event for a pastor?
I don't believe that the threat withdrawn is a problem, it may be that this could be construed as a gracious act, maybe the other elder had a change of heard over the severity of the issue.

I voted your answer correct with one proviso. I do believe that your desert example is not accurate. Just like David longed for the temple, the person in the desert could long to partake of the Lord's table.
