comment How is original sin transmitted?
I don't think we can think of sin as a substance or anything like that. Sinfulness is a relationship to God. We begin at our conception in that relationship because of our relationship with Adam through our paternal line.

comment Who was the 12th Apostle - Matthias or Paul?
Barnabas was sent by the church. I believe that he is therefore an apostle of the church at Antioch. I think we need to distinguish here between apostle and Apostle. As noted in the original question the word apostle means one who was sent. The question is who sent them? Apostles of Christ must be sent by Christ.

comment Which Bible verses support adult-only baptism?
If the sacrament is for the one of two group you define (those who are saved) then it should only be for them but then you state that there are those who are in the visible church who are not saved. So in my estimation a baptist sets an impossible standard for themselves and then admits they do not and can not reach it.

comment Which Bible verses support adult-only baptism?
Steven, Thanks for the reply. I am doctrinally Reformed and struggle with the thought of all of those professing faith being actually saved (viz. parables of the sower and the wheat and tares). In one place you say that you only believe in two groups, saved and unsaved; later you talk about in imperfect overlap between the visible and invisible church. I believe that this is exactly where the baptist view of the sacraments falls apart. Continued...

comment Which Bible verses support adult-only baptism?
@Steven Been a while, came back to re-read you answer. Still one of the more cogent answers from a credo-baptist I have seen. Thanks for that. I guess the question I would have is this. If you only baptize those who have repented, how do you know who has repented? If you baptize based on a person's creed and claim and not based on them being a repentant believer then you are very close to my position. So the question comes down to one thing for me. Are there two groups (Saved, Unsaved) or three (Saved, Unsaved Covenant Members, Non Covenant Members).

comment What are the major differences between the NKJV and the ESV translations?
Sorry, missed that. I am glad to hear that they are now taking the MT more seriously, however you have not given me an example where they PREFER a byzantine reading. All this tells me, as I understan it, is that they are deciding between two Alexandrian readings and giving more weight to a Byzantine reading in the process.
