Does Jesus contradict Himself in these verses? @RobertHaraway For sure. I think these two interpretations are the main views, which Wikis was asking which is correct in his post. I think the more literal way of interpreting would be "that is enough [swords]", and it makes most sense (to me :) as user208769 explains what he might have meant by it. Not saying one is right or wrong though. Thanks! |

Does Jesus contradict Himself in these verses? Here it is: Matt 26:31 & Zec 13:7. @user208769 mentions Jesus might have told them to get swords so that the guards wouldn't try taking disciples (being armed and dangerous), so that they would "scatter" instead. I'm sure the guards would've loved to arrest the disciples too, if they could have. Just a hypothesis though. |

Does Jesus contradict Himself in these verses? In the linked post, Nok says to fulfill Isaiah 53:12. I think it might have been so that they wouldn't try messing with the armed disciples and take them too, but instead just take jesus, and his disciples would flee and be separated, which jesus said would happen not long before this took place, and I believe it is prophesied elsewhere too, but idk the verse. |

What is the meaning of God's omni-powers? @Renan Okay, well I was going to add them to Jay's answer, but I'll just put them in mine. See my edit. |

What is the meaning of God's omni-powers? @MarcGravell IMO a contradicting premise is not valid for marking something as fallible. |

What is the meaning of God's omni-powers? @MarcGravell If God lied, then he would not be omnibenevolent. That's like saying could God make hot sauce so hot even he could not use it? It's a contradicting statement. |

Why did Jesus tell His disciples to buy a sword? @MarcGravell I think user208769 gives a good answer justifying Jesus' actions there. |

Does Jesus contradict Himself in these verses? I don't necessarily think cutting off the ear had him counted amongst the transgressors (for prophecy), but just that they accused Jesus as blasphemous and had him nailed between two criminals could have fulfilled that prophecy. Whether Jesus actually wanted Peter to draw the sword and cut off His ear is debatable. |

Does Jesus contradict Himself in these verses? Wow, great interpretation! I like how you said the purpose to move the guards to be more willing to leave the armed and unwilling disciples alone and just take an unarmed and willing Jesus, the reason they were there, and they didn't need to actually draw the sword unless they wanted to die by the sword. That makes a lot of sense. Tyvm for your answer :) |

Does Jesus contradict Himself in these verses? Well I get it would mean it is enough literal swords. I'm saying that doesn't tie with the sword of the Spirit. In this case, I don't think it means "you're not getting it", but that "it was enough" to fulfill the prophecy. But that's just my opinion. |

Does Jesus contradict Himself in these verses? I didn't read @Nok's answer in the linked post, which was insightful. It makes more sense now, but my question still stands, as a comment by MarcGravell I just read in the linked post: "If we add the Matt 26 account to this, that means: Jesus instructed them to fetch swords, just so he could tell them off for using them?" - Not that I feel to that degree, since there was other purpose for it, but it still doesn't fully add up. |

Does Jesus contradict Himself in these verses? Why then would he say "that is enough", when they brought him two literal swords? |
