@Richard -- I don't think Christians killed Muslims for their faith. They killed them as part of a military campaign to retake the Holy Land from Islamic control. Add to the mix that there was no modern-nation state at the time of the crusades -- the action looks quite different. Rodney Stark's God's Battalions: Case for Crusades is helpful.
