Software Developer, part-time pastor, and I raise chickens. Who can't love a chicken?
For Christianity.stackexchange.com, my religious background:
- Grew up in a Protestant, evangelical, nondenominational "Bible Church" (-1990)
- earned a M.Div at a Baptist Seminary (2008) and pastored a very small Baptist church (2004 - 2008)
- Currently serving in an Episcopal Church, and yes I did that site. (2008 - present)

What were the circumstances behind the loss of the “True Cross?” @MarcGravell I have no doubt that it is dubious. Relics as a whole are dubious. Regardless, however, people believed that these were the genuine artifacts. I just can't imagine going into battle with "the Declaration of Independence" Its potential loss as an historic artifact would be a crime against history! |

Open my eyes so I may see to perish is to die. In this case, we who are in sin are subject to death - thus, as spiritually dead creatures, we are unable to know what is going on... |

What does “gates of hell” mean in Matthew 16:18? The Amplified Bible uses various interpretations of the text to give additional meanings, such as the parenthetical remarks. I would certainly agree that is a scholarly interpretation, but I would be hesitant to insinuate that the scholarly interpretation is the Scriptural meaning. |

How do Evangelicals celebrate Pentecost? Just to clarify @RiverC. Pentecost is, after Christmas and Easter, the third biggest Christian holy day, not Donut Sunday. (That said, the answer that "won" me my ordination was to point out that Baptists have three sacraments - baptism, communion, and potluck.) |

Can indirection bring us closer to Christ? Precisely. Couldn't have said it better myself. |

How do Evangelicals celebrate Pentecost? ...Donut Sunday being one of the lesser feasts, celebrated on all holy days ending in "y" |

How do Evangelicals celebrate Pentecost? Sadly, my Baptist church thought I was crazy for trying to work it into the sermon. Part of why I moved more liturgical... In my Episcopalian church, we all wear red and do our "Worship and Work" Sunday. I'm tempted to bring in a birthday cake for the church this year, though. |

Should we pray for someone's salvation? @San Jacinto Apologies for being unclear - I was using the term Calvinistic where I simply should have said predestination. No offense was intended - just pulling out a potential theological path in which an answer could be framed. |

Should we pray for someone's salvation? Depends on how hard line Calvinist you are. If you believe in strict predestination, then it is a (notice not 'the') logical conclusion to say you don't need to pray for their salvation, because God will effect his desire in any event. That said, svn a Calvinst can be grateful for the opportunity to participate in Gods work by bringing the matter up to the Father in obedience. |

Christian view on chimeras Ok, I'll admit my ignorance here - what is the book of Jasher? Im familiar with most of the deutercanonicals and even a fair amount of NT apocrypha, but I've never heard of Jasher. |

Is Knuth's 3:16 project unique? So, how does he handle the books that don't have 3 chapters? |
