Software Developer, part-time pastor, and I raise chickens. Who can't love a chicken?

For Christianity.stackexchange.com, my religious background:

  • Grew up in a Protestant, evangelical, nondenominational "Bible Church" (-1990)
  • earned a M.Div at a Baptist Seminary (2008) and pastored a very small Baptist church (2004 - 2008)
  • Served in an Episcopal Church, and yes I did that site. (2008 - 2013)
  • Back to a Baptist church that has a true passion for breaking down the barriers of church so as to focus on the original mission of the church - namely to bring Jesus to a dying world.

comment When did the idea of a scriptural “canon” originate?
Perhaps the most important thing I can tell you, and I say this as a committed Biblical perfectionist and a one time bibliolator, is that you need to remember the Bible contains God Word. Jesus is His Word. As a fallen creature, I need to be corrected by Scripture, because my heart is deceitful and wicked. It is blind to the Word of God, because my heart is perishing. The technology of ink on paper is hard to refute. But in the end, the ink on paper is just that. Focus on the Word, and don't worry about the exact status of any given work

I can tell you where I stand - canonicity is ultimately a human agreement, but one that seems to have stood the test of time and God's approval. As a practical matter, I don't see the canon changing any time soon. As a good Barthian, I don't discount God's ability to do so if he chooses, but as a matter of practice, I doubt he will

comment Age difference between Mary and Jesus
That Mary was only 12 or 13 is a pretty common conjecture. I've preached it without attribution myself. It is based on the norms of betrothal and the word virgin.

FYI, If you count Maccabees - from 150BC, there is no "silent period," because there are gaps of more than 200 years in other parts of scripture...

comment Why is the word 'Lord' in all caps in the OT but not in the NT?
@H3br3wHamm3r81 Because the word used is Kurious rather than YHWH. Plus, as stated, IT IS A CONVENTION ADDED, not in the original manuscripts. Really, that was a downvote?

You'd really need to go to a Barthian argument moreso than a biblical one for this.

Welcome to C.SE. When you get the chance, please check out our tour and specifically How we are different than other sites. This is the start of a good answer, but more focus on the facts of what Tullian has written / quotes / etc. would make this a much better answer.
