Software Developer, part-time pastor, and I raise chickens. Who can't love a chicken?

For Christianity.stackexchange.com, my religious background:

  • Grew up in a Protestant, evangelical, nondenominational "Bible Church" (-1990)
  • earned a M.Div at a Baptist Seminary (2008) and pastored a very small Baptist church (2004 - 2008)
  • Served in an Episcopal Church, and yes I did that site. (2008 - 2013)
  • Back to a Baptist church that has a true passion for breaking down the barriers of church so as to focus on the original mission of the church - namely to bring Jesus to a dying world.

@TenthJustice Social justice implies justice for a particular segment of society that often doesn't get justice.

At its worst to some... I was attempting to show why some ascribe a negative connotation to the term. Liberation Theologians often describe what they are doing as a radical emphasis on social justice.

comment Was the virgin conception of Jesus known to the people at the time?
One last thing I would add to an otherwise excellent answer: Most scholars would date Matthew and Luke to the 70s or so. Clearly the story was known by this time, so even if it wasn't contemporaneous with Jesus' birth, it wasn't an extraordinarily long time afterwards. After all, there would have been people alive who would have been alive at the time of Jesus' birth, and many more with first hand knowledge of Mary.

comment Why are the books of the Protestant Bible in the order that they are in?
Hope you don't mind the edits - OP seemed to be interested in why they were in the order they were in, and thought it good to add that.
