Software Developer, part-time pastor, and I raise chickens. Who can't love a chicken?

For Christianity.stackexchange.com, my religious background:

  • Grew up in a Protestant, evangelical, nondenominational "Bible Church" (-1990)
  • earned a M.Div at a Baptist Seminary (2008) and pastored a very small Baptist church (2004 - 2008)
  • Served in an Episcopal Church, and yes I did that site. (2008 - 2013)
  • Back to a Baptist church that has a true passion for breaking down the barriers of church so as to focus on the original mission of the church - namely to bring Jesus to a dying world.

comment Did the American Constitution and independence from England usher in the first full separation of Church and state?
It was in there, but because it was in sup tags, it was hard to see.

@HarryJamesFox If you found it useful (and I thank you), I'd appreciate it if you click on the green check mark next to the answer. That's the Stack Exchange way of saying, "This was the answer I ended up finding most useful.". Thanks!

Welcome to C.SE. This is an okay answer - although I'd dispute both that "the books of the Bible were...selected in 397AD." and, more importantly that "Surely such leaders who actually lived so close to the apostles time would best know what the apostles taught." If that were the case - why was the church in Corinth so messed up, and why did Ephesus "lose its first love?"

I don't disagree - I'm just trying to be fair to both sides. The primary point is that Open Theism implies a lot of heresy. This is meant as much as summary as anything else - there is a lot that could be said about any of these.

comment What evidence is there that the New Testament was originally written in Aramaic?
The Old Testament was not just written before Jesus of Nazareth was famous - but rather it was written 600 years before Jesus of Nazaerth was born! That said, Yehoshua was a popular name even at the time of Moses - 1440 or 1250BC...

comment Will Jesus reveal himeself to anyone with the name “Isa”
In my experience, the Qu'ran serves the same role for a Muslim that the Torah does for the Jew - it is, as Galatians calls it, a nursemaid whose job it is to bring the Muslim to Christ. Through it, they are convicted of the law, and their inability to save themselves. When Jesus appears, he more fully communicates who he is, and then directs them back to the Bible. As the "People of the Book," Muslims are already open to the Bible, even if they are to taught to believe it less reliable then their Quran.

comment Are the souls in heaven conscious of their previous earthly existence?
If you aren't resurrected physically, then you deny 1 Corinthians 15, the Nicene Creed, and about 2000 years of Christian history. Only Gnostics believe in a strictly spiritual resurrection, and the church pretty well decided that was heresy a long time ago.
