I like to make programs and devices smarter and easier to use. I experiment with new, brilliant interface concepts. I'm a programmer, designer, web developer, and a nice guy.
I like to take pictures. I enjoy good humor in others and the simple things in life, like thunderstorms. Music is a great companion. I seek after anything of good report which makes life more fulfilling.
I believe choices make us who are, and are a major part of how we and others feel.

From where did the Book of Abraham come and how did it become part of LDS Scripture? There's a lot of edgy claims here, and the answer has been edited a few times to reflect that. It'd be nice to see some official sources cited in this answer, to back them up. |

What works do the LDS Church recognize as Scripture? @GilbertLeBlanc A good case study. But in this case, no word has been revealed which repeals Benson's words or makes them void, so that revelation is still valid. In fact, Ezra Benson's words were re-affirmed in the October 2010 General Conference -- twice. |

How many different groups are there that base their teachings on the Book of Mormon and/or Joseph Smith? @Narnian Yes, that seems to be the case; however, use of the term in the context of this answer (which is the scope of these comments) was not entirely fitting. As stated, though, this has been resolved. |

How many different groups are there that base their teachings on the Book of Mormon and/or Joseph Smith? @Dougvj There's no conflict; I'm no attorney and I don't claim to understand all the legalese, but it looks like there was a hiccup during the 2002 filing to renew the trademark which was later resolved (hence the apparent conflict): ttabvue.uspto.gov/ttabvue/v?pno=78161091&pty=EXA -- and yes, as I have said, the answer as it stands is now neutral in its terminology. |

How many different groups are there that base their teachings on the Book of Mormon and/or Joseph Smith? @Narnian (Replacing my previous comment with a more functional link; the USPTO's site is hideous!) -- They can since they own the trademark. And by the way, generic terms like "Christian" or "Church" cannot be trademarked. However, "Mormon" is a specific term unique to the LDS Church, officially distinguishing its use and meaning. |

How many different groups are there that base their teachings on the Book of Mormon and/or Joseph Smith? @Dougvj Looks good. I'm going to leave my comment for others who would otherwise be confused since I do think the term "Mormon" is commonly fuzzy, and it may help to disambiguate the meaning. |

How many different groups are there that base their teachings on the Book of Mormon and/or Joseph Smith? The only church claiming rights to the term "Mormon" is the LDS church and the term "Mormon" does not accurately describe any other sect. See: mormonnewsroom.org/style-guide. I recommend a revision of your answer in order to be more clear and correct, after which I'll retract the down-vote. |

What makes a Council's conclusions authoritative? Cool, thanks; that's what I was thinking, I just wanted to make sure! |

What makes a Council's conclusions authoritative? Well, let's not argue semantics -- "dark ages" is an ambiguous term. Wikipedia defines it to be many different periods of time which overlap up to about 10 or 15 centuries. |

What makes a Council's conclusions authoritative? Which category, if any of the four you posted, does revelation fit into? You imply it a few times but I can't help but think it deserves a little more attention. |

What makes a Council's conclusions authoritative? This is a good, valid question that has caused me to scratch my head quite a few times about the history of Christianity. We claim so much truth and wisdom from our theology yet many decisions and writings are the spawn of councils of men, particularly through -- ironically -- the dark ages. |

Is “Mormon” a disrespectful term? As @Nathan mentioned, the boundary between regular and "offensive" (or at least derogatory) lies in the context in which the term "Mormon" lies. |

Is “Mormon” a disrespectful term? An additional resource about the use of the name of the Church is the the Church's official policy about it: mormonnewsroom.org/style-guide -- which basically says: "While the term 'Mormon Church' has long been publicly applied to the Church as a nickname, it is not an authorized title, and the Church discourages its use ... 'Mormon' is correctly used in proper names such as the Book of Mormon, Mormon Tabernacle Choir ... or when used as an adjective ... The term 'Mormonism' is acceptable in describing the combination of doctrine, culture and lifestyle unique to the [LDS Church]." |
