In America, High Schools have pep rallies for sport events usually labeld "X's Pride Pep Rally!"(X = the High School name)

During the ceremony the sports players are built up by the other students in hopes they will defeat the other team.

Should I have my daughter skip these pep rallies or repent afterwards?

Greg, this site isn't a good place to figure out if anything is or is not "Christian" or "anit-Christian". Our site faq cites examples of questions that do not fit this site well. If you want to salvage this question, you will need to edit it to A) address it to a particular tradition that you consider authoritative and B) find a way to focus the attention less on the individual scenario and more on the principles behind it so that it can be shown how the doctrines of that tradition should be applied without the question becoming "too localized." – Caleb♦ Apr 20 '12 at 7:46

The "boastful pride of life" refers to a natural/earthly/demonic internal condition and external expression of sin which manifests in arrogance, self-glorification, independence from God, and the like.

In contrast, there are modern uses of the English word "pride", such as "I am proud of him", or "school pride" which have nothing to do with this (as I understand it.)

I am not aware of any scripture prohibiting people from enjoying life, having fun, engaging in entertaining activities, competing in sport, or cheering for a team. (Obvious exceptions would be if a person begins to worship an athlete, cause strife over a competition, etc.)

@GregMcNulty The best example I can come up with for "the boastful pride of life" (off the top of my head) would be a person criticizing God or attempting to discredit His word. (I suppose "white supremacy" involves sinful pride as well, but I am having trouble with using that as an example for some reason.) – Jas 3.1 Apr 20 '12 at 0:23
