What does scripture say about whether or not faithful Christians will be persecuted during the end times? I guess since Christians have been persecuted for millenia, the question is really whether or not they will be persecuted more, or a lot more.

Also, what does scripture say about how we are to know that the end times are finally here?

Scriptural references as well as knowledgeable theological discussion desired.

Also, I have felt persecution because of my faith at times by people who have a severe dislike for Christianity (although not bad compared to what people in other countries undergo daily.)

I know the Bible says "10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:10 KJV) But does scripture discuss anywhere why Christians are persecuted?

Thanks.

If the persecution of Christians is the sign of the end times, the world would have ended 1600 years ago, during the great persecution of Christians by the Roman Empire.

There are, of course, many Christians who believe that there will be the last and sever persecution of Christians. It is believed that the Anti-Christ will be the source of persecution. Here is one supporting scripture.

When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been. (Revelation 6:9-11, NIV)
