I'm 16 years old and am terrified of death only because I've always worried what's on the other side if there is one. And I've gone my whole life wondering what religion to believe in, what if it's the wrong one, what if there is no heaven at all?

I just need an answer please? Just so I can live my life somewhat more comfortably please?

This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:

  • "Questions seeking pastoral advice are off-topic here; your spiritual problems are too important to be left in the hands of random Internet people. See: Pastoral Advice Questions" – wax eagle

Ummm... I think you can consult this issue with a pastor. I would strongly advise that you talk with a local pastor, preferably someone you trust or know well. This question looks like it's asking for pastoral advice. Just a head's up. – Double U Sep 5 '13 at 2:11
Hi and welcome to our community, just a bit about us, we're a fairly academic question and answer site run by a secular company. We're not somewhere you should be coming for spiritual advice. We have numerous individual members who are Christians (most of us are), but because of the venue and the nature of this site, we don't answer questions like this. Mostly because we don't trust ourselves. With questions like yours we want you to go talk to someone in real life. Your pastor or priest, a trusted friend, or someone in your church that you trust. I can tell you that we'll pray for you. – wax eagle Sep 5 '13 at 2:50
But we're simply not the place for this kind of question. – wax eagle Sep 5 '13 at 2:50
I agree with the other commenters, but just want to emphasize generalizing this to talk to good other people. Maybe start right in your own family, if you can. Then good friends, teachers, coaches, school counselor, etc. We're all in this together, and although certainly death is not a happy topic, many people have come to a peace about it in their own way. Good luck! – Chelonian Sep 5 '13 at 4:00
I'm not really looking for spiritual advice but more specifically how bad would it be to believe in the wrong religion? Even though I have tried to do right by every person throughout my life, I just still worry it won't be enough. – James Hazdra Sep 5 '13 at 5:21

James, I was right there with you until I was in my 20s. I completely understand. What we know for sure is that in the Bible, Jesus says "I am the way, the truth, and the light, and no one gets to the father but by me." In other words, Jesus says only if you believe in me can you have eternal life. But let me be honest, almost all religions have some kind of statement like that. They all say "ours is the only way".

So why do I say Christianity is the right one? One of the primary reasons is because almost all other religions are what we call "works based". That means you have to live your life in a certain way, meet a certain standard, do more good than bad, etc. To me, that is even more nerve wracking than the anxiety you feel now! How can we know if we have met the standard? How can we know if we are good enough? But in Christianity, God has extended His grace to us. He says "I know you can't ever be good enough to earn your way to Heaven and I'm not going to ask you to. All you have to do is believe in My Son, Jesus, and accept what He did for you in covering for you by taking the punishment you deserved on himself." The Bible says if we believe in our heart that Jesus is Lord, we will be saved. When I finally came to understand that when I was 25, you can't imagine the relief I felt.

In my opinion, I would say to quit stressing over it, if you can. Read in the Bible what God said about what it takes to get to Heaven with Him. Read it and study it and you will find it brings you peace. At least it did for me. God doesn't want you to be stressed out. He has plans for you and things He wants you to do that stressing out will just get in the way of.

I pray for peace and comfort for you and the blessings that brings.
