It's already in the news that a meteor wounded hundreds of people yesterday in Russia. Reporters and scientists claim that such events have been occurring since a long time ago and it's not new. But this one caught us by surprise and has already caused an upset.

Is there an explanation why objects like this should fall on humans causing great damage and probably loss of lives?

Another one is about to be as close as possible to earth tomorrow and only God knows how that would end.

What could be the place of God in preventing or allowing these objects to fall on us? I don't think our sins have triggered these events or am I being naive? Could these be signs of end times?

I know of no reason why the answer regarding asteroids should be any different the answer for fires, floods, plagues or volcanos. It's the same question as "Why does evil happen?" – DJClayworth Feb 15 at 15:52
In Revelation, there is a thing that falls from the sky called Wormwood - but no evidence its a meteor. And, that's at the very end of time. – Affable Geek Feb 15 at 16:33
Finally, 2012DA14 isn't going to hit us. It'll be over 17,000 miles away at closest encounter. – Affable Geek Feb 15 at 16:34
@Affable Greek: That is extremely close, closer than even some of our own weather satellites, they say. I can't even recall the last time one was ever so close. Usually they are hundreds of thousands of miles away. Kinda' scary. – H3br3wHamm3r81 Feb 15 at 17:35
@DJClayworth They may seem alike but they are different in magnitude. We could still respond to fire/flood with the aid of helicopters and so on but this is beyond anybody's control. And yes it could be generalized under "Why does evil happen?" – tunmise fashipe Feb 15 at 18:25

You asked:

Yes there is. Death and bad things happening to us are part of the curse of the fall (Genesis 3). If God wills an asteroid to fall on men killing or harming them, He has every right to do so.

I don't think our sins have triggered these events or am I being naive?

It is not possible to give an exact reason as to why this happened, nor do I think one can, unless you go into generalities. However, because this is a fallen universe, and we are children of Adam, things like this will happen, if there were no sin (and no fall), this would not have happened.

Could these be signs of end times?

I believe we have been in the end times since the time of the apostles. Matthew 24:6-7 states that there will be wars and rumours of wars, and earthquakes and famines. These events have been occurring since that time.
